Roy McAlister is the epitome of the best small shop builders who has lived in this modern era. he is often called upon by such celebrities and tone chasers as Jackson Browne, and others, to provide a top level customized experience with strings. this instrument is what Roy calls his vintage dreadnought series. SN D-173 was constructed in the year 2008 and features a set of exquisite quilted mahogany for the back and sides, an Adirondack spruce top which has that textbook look and quality, and is over 200 years old, scalloped X bracing, Waverly gold open gear tuning machines, a modern style carved mahogany neck with perfectly executed volute, Ebony fingerboard and bridge, bone nut and saddle, 1 3/4 nut width, rosewood binding, abalone rosette, Ebony headstock overlay, maker’s stamp on rear of headstock, 25 1/2 scale length, K&K soundboard pickup installed, housed in the original case which has seen better days, (the handle shows instability, and the case shows wear).
Please understand that this instrument has not been abused, but is used, and was used by someone who enjoys actually playing the guitar, and not just looking at it. This instrument exhibits some finish checking, and signs of use such as marks behind the nut caused by capo storage, along with various insignificant bumps, scrapes and dings, which occur naturally when you have an instrument that one has a desire to pick up frequently. while there are cosmetic blemishes, structurally and in terms of set up/playability, this instrument is 100% sound.
