Altman D-2+
The Altman family are certainly no strangers to us. we have had the pleasure of showcasing several of their instruments down through the years, and they have certainly left a big mark in the world of boutique musical instruments. Taking a listen to this D-2 Plus will illustrate what we are talking about. this instrument has a fabulous balance, with a lot of body to the sound. Walnut is an often overlooked, but fabulous species for backs and sides; it has a wonderful warmth in the treble when compared to mahogany, without the extra harmonic content you often find in Rosewood. It is simply impossible to find an instrument which likes a microphone better than this one, and it responds with these to either finger picking or flat picking.
Specs: Adirondack spruce top with aging toner, Adirondack spruce braces, forward shifted scalloped X bracing, Claro Walnut back and sides, mahogany neck with volute, custom hand cut iris peghead inlay, dovetail neck joint, slim D neck profile (.859 deep at the first fret, and .917 deep at the eighth fret), two-way truss-rod, Ebony fingerboard, 1 3/4 at the nut, EVO gold frets, Waverly nickel relic tuners, bone nut and saddle, Ebony Bridge with 2 5/16 spacing, slotted bridge with bone pins, flamed maple binding, body/ arm bevel, herringbone purfling, nitro lacquer finish, strung with D’Addario EJ-17 medium gauge phosphor bronze, with TKL HSC.
