James Goodall Traditional Dreadnought

$8,899.00

Remember to look below for an in-depth video review of this instrument. It is an honor to have on consignment, a unique dreadnought from James Goodall and his family. We understand this instrument to have been constructed in the Hawaii shop in the year 2006.

When one plays a Goodall, he or she is experiencing true sonic Quality, and the very definition of master craftsmanship at a level which is rarely obtained. The balanced sound which comes from a Goodall is one which is pleasing to the microphone and discerning ear. This instrument has tremendous lows, singing highs, and everything in between, along with great volume for the professional player. It sports a 1 23/32 nut width, a C shaped neck profile on the mahogany neck, Waverly tuners, ebony fretboard and bridge, Adirondack spruce soundboard, and macassar ebony back and sides. The macassar gives the power and overtones of the best rosewoods, with a little extra sparkle in the higher frequency range. This instrument has been refretted during its lifetime, and the current frets show only minor signs of use. The condition overall is in that middle ground between very good and excellent, showing some small bumps and scratches, conducive to professional use. It was previously owned and used for many years by Duane Sparks of Fast Track, and formally of Joe Mullins and The Radio Ramblers. Here’s what Goodall says about their traditional dreadnought:

The Traditional Dreadnought model features the popular Martin dreadnought shape. Its tone is extremely powerful in the bass and midrange with an emphasis on a broad warmth without lacking treble. It has been designed especially with the flatpicker and the bluegrass player in mind.

All of our Traditional series models features a custom, partially scalloped bracing pattern which produces a bit more 'boominess' in the bass and midrange. The peghead and bridge have been redesigned for a more conservative visual appeal, with open gear Waverly tuning machines contributing to its charm. It is attractively arrayed with a herringbone marquetry rosette and top purfling, and a chevron marquetry backstrip.
