John Arnold D-29 Brazilian Rosewood WV Red Spruce
On consignment we have this John Arnold D-29, featuring a stunning set of Brazilian Rosewood for the back and sides, and a West Virginia Red Spruce top, which was harvested by mr. Arnold. Few people in the Acoustic guitar world possessed the knowledge, authority and abilities of John Arnold, and it is always a true pleasure to handle one of his instruments.
Specs include: Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, WV Red Spruce top, forward shifted scalloped X bracing, a vintage inspired mahogany neck with volute, Gotoh open back tuning machines, 1 3/4 nut width, ebony fingerboard, ebony bridge, 2 1/4 bridge spacing, vintage style long saddle, solid bridge pins, truss rod installed, nitro lacquer finish with aging toner on the top, supplied with HSC.
This instrument exhibits the classic Martin tone and characteristics of the highly desired mid 1930s Guitars. The tone is very open, with a superb balance from string to string. The trebles have a nice cut, while also maintaining a bell like roundness to them. The bass is bold, but not muddy, with a Rich core to each note. Overall the instrument is an excellent condition, showing nearly no sign of fret wear, with only minor signs of use, although it should also be noted as one would want, the finish is settling into the grain and there are a few finish cracks on the top. These are not structural cracks in the wood, but are only cosmetic, and desirable in my opinion.
