Rufus Thames D-18 Sunburst
It is a pleasure to present this consignment, a sunburst D-18 made by luthier Rufus Thames of Bristol Virginia. We have known Rufus for several years now, and have had the pleasure of seeing several examples of his work, and enjoying his company on multiple occasions. Mr. Thames is also a lifelong musician, along with being a highly skilled machinist, and these qualities are highly evident in the craftsmanship, sound and play ability of his instruments. He has an extensive waiting list for his Guitars, and his instruments are favored by the likes of Tim Stafford and other iconic players.
The specs include: Honduran mahogany back and sides, Adirondack red spruce top, forward shifted and scalloped X bracing in the 1937 style, Ebony fingerboard and bridge, nickel Waverly open back tuning machines with oval buttons, 1 3/4 nut width, vintage inspired neck carve, 2 5/16 bridge spacing, vintage style long saddle, slotted bridge with solid pins, traditional 18 style appointments, nitrocellulose lacquer finish, beautiful sunburst on the top, and supplied in a Silver Creek hardshell case.
This instrument liens on the warmer and dryer side of the spectrum. It possesses a strong bass response, thick bell like trebles which you can feel resonating throughout the body when plucked, along with a strong G and D/ mid-range fatness and punch. As with any high-end instrument we sell, the video tells the story better than words ever could, at least for those who have experienced ears and know what they are listening to in terms of tone. This 18 style Rufus Thames definitely possesses a vintage vibe, great balance and volume,, along with the element of guitar rarity, as these aren’t on the market all that frequently. listen to the video and decide for yourself.
