Rufus Thames D-28 Brazilian Rosewood
Rufus Thames Guitar – Master Grade Brazilian Rosewood Dreadnought
This stunning new Rufus Thames is a modern tribute to the golden era of American acoustic guitar making. Built with uncompromising materials and vintage-inspired craftsmanship, it delivers the rich, complex tone and effortless playability that discerning players seek.
The back and sides are crafted from master-grade quarter-sawn Brazilian rosewood, showcasing bold, straight grain beautifully accented by a rare, subtle quilting figure that displays striking three-dimensional depth in the light. Paired with a master-grade German spruce top, the guitar offers exceptional clarity, power, and dynamic range. The top is braced with Sitka spruce in the authentic 1937 forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing pattern, allowing the soundboard to vibrate freely and produce the legendary pre-war warmth, headroom, and responsiveness.
The mahogany neck is carved to the classic 1937 “Authentic 37” profile — comfortable, slightly substantial in the hand, and equally well-suited for fingerstyle or flatpicking. It features a beautifully hand-carved volute on the back of the headstock. The neck measures a generous 1-3/4” at the nut with 2-5/16” string spacing at the bridge, providing excellent string separation and a spacious, vintage-inspired feel. The slotted ebony bridge is fitted with solid Antique Acoustics pins and a vintage-style long bone saddle, while the ebony fingerboard is dressed with low-wear EVO Gold fretwire. The guitar has been meticulously pleked, ensuring optimal action and relief.
Every detail reflects the highest level of craftsmanship: an elegant natural nitrocellulose lacquer finish that will continue to improve with age, premium Waverly tuning machines for precise and reliable tuning stability, and flawless handwork throughout. Rufus personally selected every piece of wood and hand-crafted nearly every component of this instrument himself (with the exception of the Antique Acoustics pins and Waverly tuners). As a highly skilled machinist, he even manufactures his own strap buttons and truss rods.
This brand-new instrument comes with the builder’s full warranty and is protected by a premium Ole Rufus-branded vintage-style Crossrock hardshell case.
A truly special guitar that honors the past while delivering the tone, playability, and visual beauty demanded by serious players and collectors today.
