Santa Cruz Tony Rice Pro Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack

$11,000.00
sold out

On consignment, we are proud to present an example of what mini considered to be the Holy Grail of modern flatpicking Guitars. Shawn has been familiar with this particular instrument for several years, long before it was being offered for sale here. The only reason that it is being sold now, is to aid with medical expenses of the current owner. It boasts old growth Brazilian Rosewood, of a quality not Seen on most modern instruments, along with a tremendous old growth Adirondack spruce top. Additionally, it sports the highly desirable signature label from the Guitar master himself, Tony Rice. It should be noted that lots of examples have not had a signature label for many years. Other specs include, mahogany V profile neck with volute, 1 11/16 nut width, 25.25 scale length, blank Ebony fretboard, Ebony Bridge, bone nut and saddle, nitro lacquer finish, and includes a Calton case. It has been very well maintained during its 27 years of life, though shows some signs of where and use, as it has been owned by people who actually play the guitar. Items such as very superficial dings in the lacquer are present, while it is structurally as stable as a brand new instrument fresh off the bench! The action is very playable, however there is not an over abundance of saddle, meaning that over the next few years the new owner might consider a neck set, should he or she wish to lower the string height. Additionally, someone installed the strap button on the underneath side of the neck heel, which for some is a matter of taste and comfort, and an annoyance to others. Any competent repair person worth their salt can relocate the strap button, with little to no visual evidence left behind. The overall condition should be considered as excellent, giving the age of the instrument, with no other negative attributes coming to mind, and the frets being still in very good condition.

“ I have had the pleasure of playing several examples of this model which were made as personal Guitars for Tony & Wyatt Rice, Richard Bennett, and other Santa Cruz endorsing artists, along with dozens of examples on the open market. Based on my experiences, there isn’t one which sounds better than this one, and very few that I thought as highly of. This instrument has a huge sound to say the least! The trebles are fat and round, and maintain a haunting quality in the sustaine; while the basses are very deep, without bringing the guitar out of balance. The current set up is using phosphor bronze strings, and offers a very warm and lush tone. I have also heard this instrument with 80/20 bronze, and can tell you that it will brighten up the top four strings considerably, should that be your desire. The video demo will tell you all that you need to know about the sound, as we seem to be the only people who still offer such an extensive demonstration of instruments. Additionally, shop around and compare prices, and you will see that most competitors are selling instruments of this quality and condition at more than twice the price. Perhaps they sound great, but we will never know, because they don’t let us hear them do they?”
