Adkin Essential D Prewar Heavy Aged
We are closed until 4/13/2026. All orders will be fulfilled upon return on 4/14/2026.
The Atkin Essential D Pre-War Dreadnought is a stripped-down, no-frills powerhouse that delivers authentic vintage-inspired tone with modern playability. Handcrafted in England by Atkin Guitars, this model channels the spirit of 1930s pre-war dreadnoughts—bold, open, and responsive—while incorporating the builder’s signature refinements for exceptional volume, clarity, and dynamic range.
This particular example features a heavy relic finish, giving it a beautifully worn, battle-tested appearance with checking, dings, and an aged patina that enhances its vintage aesthetic without compromising structural integrity. The super-thin nitrocellulose lacquer ages gracefully and allows the woods to vibrate freely.
Key Specifications:
• Body Style: Dreadnought (D)
• Top: North American Adirondack spruce (torrefied/baked for enhanced vintage-like response)
• Back & Sides: Honduran mahogany
• Bracing: Pre-war scalloped X-bracing (Atkin’s custom pattern for maximum top movement and projection)
• Neck: Mahogany with a comfortable vintage-inspired V carve
• Fingerboard: Ebony, 16” radius
• Nut Width: 1 3/4” (wide for fingerstyle comfort and precise chording)
• Scale Length: 25.4” (standard dreadnought scale for balanced tension and powerful bass response)
• Nut & Saddle: Bone
• Tuners: Nickel Gotoh (smooth and reliable)
• Bridge: Ebony
• Binding & Rosette/Purfling: Tortoiseshell binding with classic black/white/black purfling
• Finish: Heavy relic aged thin gloss nitrocellulose lacquer
• Other Details: Ebony headstock overlay and backstrip, dual-action truss rod, Atkin decal logo
The result is a dreadnought with serious low-end thump, sparkling trebles, and surprising headroom that rewards strong playing while remaining articulate and nuanced for lighter touch. It’s an ideal workhorse for bluegrass, old-time, flatpicking, or singer-songwriter styles—built to improve with age and use. Comes with an Atkin luxury hardshell case for protection during travel or storage.
This is a guitar that feels and sounds like it’s been played for decades, right out of the shop.
